NDPHS NCD-EG online seminar series on progress (2003->2017) and analysis of main causes of premature deaths in the Northern Dimension region: 1st seminar on Wednesday 24 March

The Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being (NDPHS), its Expert
Group on Non-communicable Diseases (NCD-EG) and Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL),
would like to invite you to the seminar on the premature mortality from preventable causes in the
countries of the Northern Dimension area on Wednesday 24 March.

With this, the NDPHS NCD-EG is initiating a series of three online seminars in March, April and May
2021 to present the results of the recently conducted analysis of the Potential Years of Life Lost
(PYLL) in the countries of the NDPHS area. The participating countries have been divided into three
groups and the first session on 24 March will focus on four countries: Finland, Germany,
Norway and Sweden ; the second one on Thursday 22 April will focus on Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
and Poland; and the third one on Friday 14 May will focus on Belarus and Russia.

The analysis is a continuation of the previous study of premature preventable mortality in the NDPHS
area concluded in 2013. Presently, the available mortality registry data from years 2003-2017 were
studied. The results will help understand how the healthcare and health promotion policies
implemented in the participating countries have succeeded to limit the loss of human capital, and what
can be further done to prevent premature deaths.
